Southern Cooking: Wilmington’s Favorite Iconic North Carolina Foods

Shrimp and Grits
We could wax on ad infinitum about the virtues of shrimp and grits. There are thousands of variations, starting with choices from loose grits or grit cakes, to rich red eye gravy or butter and diced fresh tomatoes. Top them with an egg, add a biscuit, or go all out and put the shrimp on a skewer and dress them up with a Caribbean coconut-inspired sauce. Port City foodies love their shrimp and grits, so it’s all good. The more ways you serve them, the more times we can eat them.
